GODS & GODDESSES

Greek mythology was the religion of the ancient Greeks. It is based on explanations of natural phenomena for which no one had answers, the creation of the world and humans, and why life is the way it is. Each god and goddess has its own signature symbol.

APHRODITE | Ἀφροδίτη

Aphrodite, Ἀφροδίτη in ancient greek, was the goddess of love and beauty. She was also the goddess of all good and evil in the sea. People, gods and artists admired the glow that erupted when she smiled or laughed.

APOLLO | Ἀπόλλων

Apollo, Ἀπόλλων in ancient Greek, was the god of divination and truth, music and poetry, light and healing, clarity, sports, beauty and knowledge, and the god of archery. Apollo was believed to be able to heal both
and protected health, and sent away diseases and plagues

ARTEMIS | Ἄρτεμις

Artemis , Ἄρτεμις in ancient Greek, was the goddess of hunting, nature and fertility. She was also the protector of children and women during childbirth and also of wild animals. She protected young girls from birth until they were married.

NIKÉ (THE WINGED VICTORY) OF SAMOTHRACE

Niké was the goddess of victory, both in war and sports. Niké is one of the most revered works of Hellenistic Greek art. It was found on the island of Samothrace in 1863, but it was missing the legs, arms and head that give the statue symbolic image.
